Trying to fix this has had my attention for quite a while now and I'm stumped. Instead, I use Avast and I haven't found any mention of Avast quarantining update files or anything like that. Most of the solutions I've seen involved AVG quarantining a file vital for the windows update that causes this issue but I personally do not use AVG. Some have said Refreshing will fix things but similarly to System Restore, I get an error trying to do so where it tells me something occurred while attempting to refresh the computer and that no changes have been made. Now I am able to use my computer as normal other than the Windows Audio service not working. I was stuck like that for a bit last night until I undid the system restore. Unfortunately, the restore gets interrupted and that sticks me in the infinite reboot cycle.

Any attempts to instruct it to Start end with it attempting to do so for a few seconds before it suddenly stops and tells me 'Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. The Windows Audio Endpoint Builder seems to be running just fine but Windows Audio is not. I have also opened up the services.msc and locating the Windows Audio service. I have tried restarting several times and then retrying this to no avail.
Clicking on it attempts to fix the issues and start the audio service automatically, though it ends in saying that the service could not be started, with it telling me 'One or more audio services is not running' and having 'Not Fixed' set aside for the issue. Since then, however, I have been unable to start the audio service back up.Īs it stands, the sound option has a red cross over it in the toolbar. I used the computer quite a bit yesterday before I was forced to restart for the update and the few minutes before the restart, the audio was working just fine.
Following an update last night, my computer seems to be unable to start the Windows Audio service.
